To determine the distance and coordinates of an object, it calculates the distance between the camera and the object, the laser source, and the angle it forms.
Using the trigonometric calculations and analyzing the given information, the model is designed.

Instead of the laser beam as in laser scanning, a light beam is used in the structured light technique of scanning the object for 3D printing.
In structured light scanning, a pattern of a light source is projected on the object, which is hunted down by the cameras.
It takes measurements by radiating a beam at an object, and then the data is sent to the computer for modeling.
Structured light scanning is also very fast and gives high-resolution results; however, it is not feasible to work with structured light scanning in an outside environment.
In fact, the structured light technique proves to be faster than the laser technology as the cameras in structured light records the information at once, while in laser technique, single laser light is put over the object at different positions, calling for repeating the process several times.
In this type of process, a physical probe is used, and as the name suggests, it has to touch the surface of the objects at a different point to take readings.
There are two ways in which it can be prepared; the stationary probe is required if the scanning object is moving, and if the object is at rest, the moving probe is used.
When you want to scan a transparent object, a contact-based technique is preferred; however, it takes longer than the other methods and does not give high-quality results. Plus, this technique is not feasible for complex shapes.
